Sometimes, you try to delete a file and receive access violation or file in use - errors. To successfully delete a file, you will need to identify the process which has locked the file. Since Windows Vista this is quite easy. Perform the following steps to know which process has locked a file:
- Start the task manager (CTRL + Shift + Esc)
- Go- to the Performance tab
- Click Resource Monitor
- Select the CPU tab
- In the search box, of the Associated Handles group, specify the name of the file which is locked and click enter.
- And there you go.
